It is true that we will likely we will never know the truth about Alice’s parents and when/how she arrived. I will be in the area next fall but know that so many have researched this that it is unlikely we will find more info. What would be most helpful is a christening record for her in England. No passenger is recognized in the MSociety unless they were actually part of the settlers. Since all Martins died aboard ship that first winter, they are not included. That only complicates the matter of Alice and who her parents were… Thanks, Erin

I too am a decendent of Alice and Damaris. Alic is my 10th great grandmother on my maternal side. I was very interested in the story. I was entering names of ancestery and found a story about her husband and that she was hung, so i had to find out more! Thank you so much for all of your work!!!

I have found information on Ancestry.com that there was another daughter – Ann Martin who married Benjamin Gillam and didn’t come to American until about 1635. Have you seen any reference to Anne? Of course none of those who list Ann as the daughter of Christopher and Marie Prower have given a source that connects her with her parents so I don’t know how that connection was even made. Any insight from you would be much appreciated. I’ve loved reading your blog. Fascinating and yet sad story.

Hi. My name is Misty Littleton Hatten. I am a direct descendant of Alice Bishop. She was my 14x great grandmother. My paternal great grandmother was a Bishop. I find this story fascinating. Can you tell me why the Mayflower society does not acknowledge her as being Christopher Martin’s daughter? It states that he had only one child. A son.

She was a gr so far back grandmother to me. On the Sutton side does any one have more research on this story? Has any one gone to Plymouth to take a hard look at other people stories? Is it true that I can’t join the Mayflower because of what happen with Alice? That is sooo WRONG.
